Call My Name Prince

The Prince of music, what a talent. This guy has written hundreds of song’s for himself and other artists. His all time classic Purple Rain has got to be on most peoples favorite song lists, I know it’s on mine. A controversial showman that is great live and just writes the most amazing songs, I can’t fault him really.

His full name is Prince Rogers Nelson and he is 51 being born on June 7th 1958. He did go a bit crazy in the 90′s when he changed his name to a symbol, which meant he effectively didn’t have a name. I am not sure of the reason behind this decision, but I guess it sort of backfired as he then became referred to as the artist formerly known as prince, so several years later he went back to his original name.

He comes from a musical back ground his father John being a pianist and songwriter and his mother being a jazz singer. The musical career of prince is a long one, but my favorite time of his music was the purple Rain album and the film of the same name which won an Academy Award. It is said that the ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics’ Label started from a song that was on the Purple Rain album, that song being Darling Nikki. The album is full of great song’s and in my opinion his best work to date.

With the huge back catalogue of Prince there is probably songs that appeal to all taste as he has crossed a vast amount of styles within his music. It is worth seeking out and indulging in some of his music, he is a true inspiration to many a songwriter and a huge talent.

Prince’s music is not readily available on the likes of Youtube due to copyright, so it is hard to freely find a video to include here, this is a bit sad really because for him to reach a young audience and for them to experience and enjoy his music he should allow this exposure.

Here is a little report that was posted about a year ago when Prince turned 50, it gives a few small clips of some of his songs.

If you get the chance, try a see the film Purple Rain it really is worth a watch.
