Labelled A Gothic Band

Taking a leap back to the late seventies now, I would like to remind everyone of a great band that were in a class of their own, with a distinct sound and an air of mystery, you will either remember them with passion or you will not even recognise the name.

The band I am talking about is Bauhaus, formed in 1978 in Northampton England, they consisted of Pete Murphy the lead singer, David J Haskins on Bass Guitar, Daniel Ash on Guitar and Davids younger brother Kevin Haskins on Drums. They were said to have a depressive and dark sound and were labelled a Gothic Band.

Pete Murphy’s presence on stage was very strong and almost erie, his voice is amazing, but the sound they produced as a band was totally unique with their most popular or well known song being Bela Lugosi’s Dead a song that was getting on for 10 minutes in length and had some great sounds from the guitar of Daniel Ash.

Being a Bowie fan I was intrigued by their cover of Ziggy Stardust and have to say what a brilliant version it was, I think even Bowie himself would agree, it almost inflated the song that Bowie so brilliantly wrote and was used at the beginning of the film The Hunger which starred David Bowie, so he must have approved.

Bauhaus did split in 1983 and they all went on to do other things, Pete followed a solo career and the others formed several bands. In 1998 they reunited for the Resurrection Tour and again they reformed in 2005, but they seemed never destined to stay together again, unless the future holds a different story.

If you were ever a Bauhaus fan then you will enjoy the tracks I have included below and they will probably bring back memories of that time, but if you have never heard of them or never listened to them, then take the time to listen to the tracks below and go seek out more of their music, they are definitely worth the time to listen to, so turn up your speakers and enjoy.
