How Do You Write
Is there a right way to write, like a certain blueprint to writing. A structure that should always be followed that will mean you are regarded as a writer if you know about it and follow it.
I don’t regard myself as a seasoned writer. I have never studied to be a writer, I don’t even know if you can study to be a writer. if you can, I don’t really get it. I can’t really see how you can learn what to write. I write what I think, my thoughts transfered to page. You can learn how to spell and learn about grammer and punctuation. But as far as writing goes, I can’t see that you can learn to think.
There are plenty of creative writing courses that are available and I have always wondered what they actually teach, but not enough to enroll on one. May be you are not regarded as a writer unless your puntuation is perfect and you know at least 100 long words that not everybody can understand. May be you have to be able to explain something very simple in a very complicated, complex and creative way to be a writer.
What if a person cannot spell at all, has never heard of a semi-colon let alone where to put it in their writing. What if that person never over explains anything with fancy words and phrases and what if the context of what they write is brilliant are they a good writer or not.
In my opinion they are, for if they have great thoughts and transfer them into words that make up a poem or book then just because they are not written in a way that is classed as correct does not make them any less great. A semi-colon in my understanding is used in place of a coma as a more distinct break in a sentence, but I never use them, why should I! I am not sure if my definition of a semi-colon is correct or not, it is just how I understood it from my school days.
What is the correct way or is there a correct way any more? In the modern world we have text talk and we have always had slang, so we should be able to write how we want to write without being frowned upon, without being told that to get our work published it has to be presented in the traditionally correct manner.
Once upon a time an artist used to paint a picture in a traditional way like a landscape or portrait, now an artist can put several straight lines within a circle and it can be deemed as brilliant, with profound conversations about what the artist is saying. So if the art world can move on then why can’t literature.
It’s just a thought!
I have had a few people read my song lyrics that are here on this site and one of them said that I hadn’t structured them in the right way to be a song, Tough xxxx I say! I will structure them as I want to, I write them from within me, if I start to strucutre them to how someone else wants them then they may lose their strength and character.
Now I have finished my little rant, I will move on with how I write. I write from my thoughts and feelings which are taken from my life and how I experience it, or how I see it. I don’t much care for tradition in the respect of being told it should be done in a certain way, I want to do it my way and if that works for me then I’m happy. There are probably plenty of mistakes in what I have written here, but I am sure you have understood what I am trying to say, So what’s the problem.
If you are a stickler for doing things how they are supposed to be done then good for you that is your right, but I give support to all those who write how they want to write and one day it will not stop your work getting published.
Here are a few books if you are interested in perfecting the art of writing Song Lyrics. I am not sure if they are any good as I haven’t read them.
