Paul Weller

It seems like only yesterday that The Jam hit the music scene with their amazing sound. But it was over 30 years ago now, that makes me feel old. They truly were a fantastic band and hit us in 1977 in the midst of the Punk Movement.

Paul Weller formed The Jam back in 1972 as a school boy. After several years gigging they got there break during the Punk Era and it was always a dead cert that Weller would be around for a long time. Over the next five years they produced six albums one being a live one and they finally split in 1982. The Jam were truly a great band, who’s song still sound fresh to this day.

In early 1983 The Style Council released themselves on us with a more relaxed and less urgent sound. Even before The Jam had officially split in October 82 Paul had his ideas for the new band. He wanted to move on with his music, which was impossible in The jam. The new bands music seemed to reflect to me the move on from the death of Punk. Another band that produce so many great songs.

The Style Council split in 1989 and their album Modernism went unreleased, although it was finally released in 1998 more than a decade later.

Paul Weller then re-established himself in 1991 as a solo artist and has been producing great music ever since, 22 Dreams being his ninth album, his first being Paul Weller in 1992. Weller has earned a very well respected reputation as a great song writer/performer. He even received an award this year at the Brits as best Male Solo Artist.

So if like me you have enjoyed every phase of Paul Wellers career then have a listen to a favorite track of mine from his Jam days and a favourite for the Style Council Days.
