REM
Another great band that have produced some really great tunes, REM were formed in 1980 in Georgia. They are seen as an alternative rock band and some of their great songs include The One I Love, Orange Crush, Losing My Religion and of course the classic Everybody Hurts.
The band is made up of Michael Stipe who is lead vocals, Peter Buck on guitar who met in a record store that Peter Buck worked at. They then met Mike Mills on Bass and Bill Berry on Drums and started to put together some songs. There was no real plan behind them producing the music, their first gig was a friends birthday party and as yet their band was still unnamed.
The name REM came from the dictionary and is an abbreviation for Rapid Eye Movement. The new named band started to tour locally and soon became popular, with a growing following and around 18 months later in mid 1981 they released their first single Radio Free Europe and sold out, although there was only a limited amount of copies made and released.
The bands success grew quickly and in 1982 they released an EP named Chronic town and then in 1983 their debut album Murmur. They then grew from strength to strength and in 1991 released the album Out Of Time and then in 1992 Automatic For The People, these two albums rendered them big success and in 1994 they released the album Monster.
The band were known worldwide and had achieved major success, but in 1997 the Drimmer Bill Berry left the band and REM carried on as three. Rem have produced many albums over the years and are rumoured to be writing and recording their fifteenth album this year, so look out for that one.
I wanted to include one of their songs here and just did not know what to choose, there are so many great songs. So I decided to just put up the first one I found and the one at the top of the list when I searched the name REM, this is it Losing My Religion.
A Great Song – Enjoy!
